We believe that a just legal system must allow for redemption, fairness, and compassion—and we fight every day to make that vision a reality.

ABOUT INNOCENCE & JUSTICE LOUISIANA

We serve all 64 parishes in Louisiana.

We are the only non-profit law firm in Louisiana dedicated to post-conviction legal representation and wraparound post-release support for people who have been wrongfully convicted or unjustly sentenced.

Working in the most incarcerated state in the nation means freeing individual people is not enough, and so we also drive a broader fight for legal reform.

Louisiana Parishes

OUR MISSION

Innocence & Justice Louisiana (formerly Innocence Project New Orleans) frees innocent people sentenced to life in prison and those serving unjust sentences. We recognize the root causes of wrongful convictions and unjust sentences as systemic racism and inequities. We work to expose and address these root causes by sharing our clients’ stories in court, the legislature, the community and the media. We support our clients living well and fully in the world after their release.

Innocence & Justice LA Staff

Our Team

We are relentless advocates for justice in Louisiana, working tirelessly to restore freedom for our clients, and help them rebuild their lives with dignity. We support our clients in telling their stories to reveal the truth of our racist and inequitable criminal legal system.

Work with Us: Volunteer and Career Opportunities

We rely on the dedication of interns, volunteers, and staff to make our work possible. The time, talent, and passion of those who join us help drive investigations, support clients, and ultimately free more people. Whether you’re a student, legal professional, or community member, there’s a role for you here.

Louisiana incarcerates its citizens at nearly twice the national rate — the highest in the world. Join us in the fight for a more just system.
