In 2006, Larry Hall was arrested for being a “principle” to drug distribution. The state claimed that he had instructed another person to sell drugs to an undercover police officer. No drugs or money were ever found on Mr. Hall. He testified in his own defense. And yet he was convicted and sentenced to 60 years in prison for drug distribution.
In prison, Mr. Hall became a Class A trustee. He earned his associates and bachelor’s degrees in Christian Ministry and earned over 40 certificates through participation in rehabilitative and faith-based programming, including many programs which he facilitated. Mr. Hall’s job at the prison was to minister to people being held in the cell blocks. He was also a mentor in Angola’s re-entry program.
In 2022, Innocence & Justice Louisiana and the prosecutor jointly advocated to a judge that Mr. Hall should be released based on his excellent prison record and the facts of the crime of which he was convicted. At 60 years old, after 16 years in prison, he was re-sentenced and released.
